Answers to our Tefillos

We are now living in very difficult times. We all need personal yeshuos and refuos and it’s hard when we daven so hard and don’t see an answer.
First of all, we need to keep reminding ourselves who is in charge. No matter what situation we are in, we must keep remembering that no matter what, Hashem is in charge, He is running the show, He knows what is best for us and He can do anything at any time!! He can perform miracles - right in front of our eyes!
Just like He is the one who makes a person sick, He is the only one who can heal, not the doctors or anyone in the hospitals - only Hashem! He is the one who brings about every single shidduch, every single yeshuah and He runs the world!! And never underestimate the power of our tefillos.

Sometimes we daven for something and we don't see immediate results. In fact, this is not something that happens sometimes, it happens all the time! We daven and daven and beg and cry and we say to Hashem, "why?" or "when will you finally answer my tefillos?”
We expect that when we daven for something, since our tefillos are so powerful and pierce the heavens, we should get answered right away!
But this doesn't happen. It doesn't work that way.
R' Shimshon Pincus gives an amazing, down-to-earth mashal to explain this.
After you eat something very fattening, do you run to the mirror and say, "Ohmygosh! I gained weight!!"??
No! It doesn't work that way! It takes time!!!
Just like the second you eat, you will not see the extra pounds showing up when you look at your reflection in the mirror, you will not see immediate results as soon as you are done davening for someone or something - it takes time!!

When you daven for someone, your tefillah never goes to waste - if you don't see an answer, many times it's just that Hashem is saving the tefillah for another time when you least expect it, or didn't even deserve it, or didn't even daven for something - and then the yeshuah just "comes" and you wonder - "what did I do to deserve that?" It's because Hashem took out the tefillos that you davened that long time ago and uses it for a time when you need it most!!

Here’s a story I know personally that shows this point. When I was in elementary school, a girl in my grade had a family member that got sick with cancer. Everyone davened so hard for this girl’s sister. She was still young (just 19 years old) and had a whole life ahead of her. The family, the school, everyone was davening. And then…she passed away. It was so sad!

A few years later, Chaya Sara was walking with this girl’s sister (let’s name her Rivka, just for the story) and as they were crossing the street, a car turned in and hit Rivka. Her body went flying up and then fell down on the street with a thud. It was a very scary moment. Chaya Sara was totally fine, the car didn’t touch her, but the girl she was walking with was lying on the ground. Hatzalah was called and Rivka was brought to the hospital.

When her parents heard that their daughter was in a car accident, they thought, “We cannot lose another one!! Hashem, how much more do you think we can handle?! Please, please, do something to save us from any more pain!!”

Well, there was a real miracle. Rivka was brought to the emergency room and emerged without a scratch! She was totally fine!

Ask Chaya Sara if you want to know if this story really happened! She was there, walking with this girl when the accident happened!

So you see that sometimes, we may not see an answer to our tefillos right away, but Hashem saves those tefillos for when we least expect it and for when we need it most! The tefillos that everyone davened for Rivka’s sister were saved for her and she experienced a miracle!!

Let’s keep reminding ourselves that Hashem can do anything to anyone at anytime - He holds the power to heal, bring simcha and joy into our lives and He gives each person the strength they need to go thru life’s many difficult challenges.

  1. This post is so amazing! It makes me realize that just because we don't understand the who/what/when/why's, it doesn't mean that they aren't being planned and masterminded by Hashem. It's true... we expect the solution to happen as soon as we finish davening for it...

I heard this Mashal from a friend just last week, and I think it fits in somewhat!

The mother of a very noisy/crying baby is fed up with having to wake up several times in the middle of the night to pacify him with a bottle. One night she decides to put the baby to sleep with 5 full bottles and hopefully that would keep him quiet all night! Sometime after falling asleep, the mother wakes up to hear the baby howling for her attention. She hears the bottles falling to the floor, one by one. The mother walks over and sees the baby holding the last bottle, and the stuff inside had leaked out all over the crib! She takes the bottle away and the baby cries even louder (how dare she take it away!) and goes to refill it. The mother comes back with a freshly-filled bottle and gives it to the baby... peace at last.

Sometimes Hashem needs to take something away from us to deliver the goodness. Unfortunately, because of our limited understanding, we don't see the good reasons for loss...

  2. oh Koach shel Tefilla, my favorite! how about the multiple times I daven so hard to be able to deal with the many tests and then get through them easily? or when my friend was going to go to Israel for the first time and then it fell through bu I kept davening and she iy"H will be going in January! Or when my friend lost her Chumash notes that she lends to everyone who misses classes cuz she's that much of a tzedekes and I and a few others probably davened that she should find them and lo and behold then she did. Or how about when I davened mincha closely before Shabbos although I would need the bathroom to get ready and only once I was done davening was the bathroom free. Or how about yesterday when I focused so much on the tefilla of Rifa'ainu that I plain forgot to say the mishaberach for cholim, but then Hashem orchestrated it so that I for the first time was done davening in time with the rest of the school and so could add in my cholim names with the school's mishabairach!!!! The power of tefilla is crazzzyyyy!!! When you put effort in for Hashem, He puts effort to give you the day you want! Thanks so much though for this help for when it's not as apparant!!

There are tefilos which are answered right away and there are tefilos which are saved for later or for another time.

  6. Devoiry, you know who I am, and this comment is to let you kow I luv what you and Chaya Sara are doing:)
    Guess who I am...
Anyways, as a comment, I'm going to contribute. Everyone knows the famous story of the little girl who prayed for her parents to have money for a new dress for her birthday party. Her birthday came and went, but she never got the dress. Her parents just never got the money. When questioned about theh prayer, she answered,
G-d answered me. He answered No.
sometimes the best answer for us is NO.
A tefillah never goes unanswered. Sometimes the answer is 'No'cuz as our Father, he knows best. And who knows better what's good for us than the One Who created us?

  7. Thanks everyone for your comments!

R - I love that mashal - it's amazing and true that sometimes Hashem takes something away only to replace it with something better! It may be hard and we cry and cry but then when we see what we got, we can appreciate the pain we went through because of what we came out with! In case you haven't guessed, I'm talking about the loss of my brother, Shalom a"h. When he was niftar, it was so hard and so painful! But now when we look back, we see how much was gained - we got closer to Hashem, strengthened our emunah in Him, we are able to understand other people who went through the same/similar thing (and more)! Of course, we don't ask for such challenges, but when we look back, we can see how much we gained from it!!

Tamar - you answered Correction's question. Maybe I should have written the post differently - that of course Hashem answers us on a day to day basis. This post was just to explain and give us chizuk for the times we don't see an answer right away. But hopefully, we will see answers to our tefillos more often then the times we are waiting for an answer!!

    MW - Thanks!

bee - glad you liked it!

someone - No, I don't know who you are. Your name is not enough of a hint...wanna clue me in?!
(Did I speak to you last night?! Or is that another someone?)
    Thanks for the mashal!

THE POLICE CAME TO THE SCENE AND WHEN THEY SAW WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAR AND RIVKA THEY SAID IT WAS SUCH A TERRIBLE CRASH THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED ON THE SPOT!! SHE WAS IN A VERY DANGEROUS STATE THEY WERE AFRAID TO MOVE HER!! SHE WAS PUT ONTO THE STRECHER EVER SOOO CARE FULLY SO THAT THEY SHOULD NOT HURT HER SPINE!!THEY PUT HER ON A NECK BRACE BEC THEY FELT IT PROB WAS A SPINAL INJURY!! SHE WAS OUT of it !! I WENT WITH HER TO THE HOSPITAL HEART POUNDING OUT OF MY CHEST!! WAS SOOO SCARED TO TELL HER PARENTS WHAT HAPPENED!! I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR HER!!
WE CALLED HER PARENTS THEY WERE TERRIFIED!! I CANT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU WHT THERE FACES LOOKED LIKE WHEN THEY CAME IN!!
THEY SAW THEIR DAUGTHER ON A BED WITH A NECK BRACE AND TOTALLY OUT OF IT IT WAS SOOO SCARY!! IS THAT A SPINAL INJURY!! WE ALL STOOD OUTSIDE THE ROOM WHERE THEY EXAMINED HER AND WERE SAYING TEHILLIM BEGGING HASHEM FOR A MIRACLE!! THE MOST OUTRAGOUS NES WAS THAT HE SAID SHE ONLY BROKE HER WHOLE LEG!! WHAT A NES!! WE WANTED TO DANCE AND SING TO THANK HASHEM THATS ALL IT WAS!! WELL THE STORY IS NOT OVER YET!! SHE WAS A NEW GIRL IN SCHOOL AND SHE HAD NO FRIENDS SHE WAS VERY SHY!! RIGHT AFTER THE ACCIDENT EVERYONE STARTED TO GET TO KNOW HER SHE NEEDED HELP UP THE STEPS GIRLS HELPED HER,SHE NEEDED WORK TO BE MADE UP SO SHE GOT TOT KNOW GIRLS THAT WAY! THEY BOUGHT HER BALLOONS AND PRESENTS!! SHE HAD A FULL LEG CAST AND NEEDED A CHAIR TO PUT HER LEG ON SO THEY ALL HELPED HER OUT!! THIS COMPLETELY CHANGED HER LIFE!!!! HER MOTHER TOLD ME THAT SHE FEELS THAT ALL THE TEFFILOS THAT WENT FOR THEIR DAUGTHER WERE NOW USED TO SAVE HER BEC. SHE MAMASH CLD HAVE BEEN KILLED!!
THEY WERE USED TO SAVE HER RIVKAS LIFE!! THE MOTHER SAID IT SOO MANY TIMES!
THIS STORY IS A REAL EXAMPLE OF HOW TEFILLOS ARE SAVED!! AND SOMETIMES THERE MUST BE A GREAT REASON FOR HASHEM SAYING NO!! SINCE SHE BROKE EHR FOOT SHE WAS NOW ABLE OT MAKE FRIENDS!!
THANK YOU SOOO MUVHHfor all oyur beautiful cmments!
