The Three Weeks - A Poem

The Three Weeks
I wrote this about two years ago...but the message still remains! Hopefully, next year we wont need to read it!

During the three weeks,
There is a change in mood,
And when we get to the nine days,
We stop eating fleishige food.

Why all these changes?!
Is there a point here?!
There is a message we should take,
And show Hashem we really care.

Although it was many years ago,
We still remember it now,
The bais Hamikdosh, Hashem’s holy house,
Was destroyed and burned to the ground.

It was a place of total clarity,
Where we gathered three times a year
And now it is gone, it is no more,
And for this we should shed a tear.

But how much do we really feel it?
Do we mourn the way we should?
Do we genuinely feel,
That we are missing out on so much good?!

We have to stop and think,
About the churban and its loss,
And how we can rebuild it,
No matter what, at all costs.

If r"l, YOUR house was gone,
And was burned in a terrible fire,
And you watched it burn to the ground,
You saw those flames rise higher and higher,

And the people closest to you,
Had their lives taken away,
Yes in the time of the churban bais Hamikdosh,
All this happened on one day.

Hashem’s palace, His home,
Was destroyed on Tisha B’av,
And believe it or not,
This too came from His love.

Because Hashem let out His anger,
On bricks and stones,
Instead of destroying all of us,
The Jewish nation as a whole.

And now it’s up to us,
To help rebuild it fast
By doing as many mitzvos as we could
To build the third bais Hamikdosh that forever will last.

So use this time to be extra kind,
Do chesed with the people you know,
Keep adding bricks to the bais Hamikdosh shel ma’alah,
So back to Yerushalayim we will go.

Take on something extra now,
Say tehillim, smile at your friends,
Apologize to those you have hurt,
Yes, now is the time to make amends.

Just show Hashem you are trying,
And you want to come back to Him,
And by each person doing teshuva,
He’ll bring us back to Yerushalayim!

  1. Why every year we/ at least i feel, that this is going to be THE year. We sit there on Tisa-Bav crying and i feel like we moved mountains and then I sit and look out the window waiting and Moshiach isn't here its such a tease. Doesn't Hashem see how badly we need Moshiach and see how much we want to get close to Him? So why doesn't He just send it. It seems even-though Hashem doesn't need ANYTHING from us, that bring Moshiach would be a win-win situation for us and Hashem if He would just bring Moshiach. Obviously i know that its not the case because otherwise Hashem would do it but, still. As im writing this i see that i guess even~though i have Emuna in Hashem and know that He is perfect in some way i feel that i know i know i have to work on it to REALLY KNOW that He only does good and has our best interest in mind. Just thinking about out so bear with my thought as i try and proses it all that i think and try to understand. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to think about it. Your poem is very thought provoking~thank You!!!

  2. I wish that we would all believe - sincerely, in our hearts, that every tear we shed, every slight yearning we feel for the coming of Mashiach really moves mountains..! We underestimate the power it has...
Hashem wants us to continue to yearn for the bais hamikdash and the level of the relationship it'll bring between us and Hakadosh Baruch Hu. The more we yearn for it now before mashiach comes, the more we'll appreciate and value the gift when it comes! "Kol Hamisabel al Yerushalayim zoche v'roeh b'simchasa" is a natural consequence. If we are upset that yerushalayim is not what it used to be, when mashiach comes we will truly rejoice!
During the 3 weeks, Hashem is sending tragedies all over the world to make us cry and yearn for the geula to finally come. Just some headlines from today alone on yeshiva world, "Tragedy In Deal, NJ: 3-Year-Old Killed By Car," "Brutal Attack Against a Jew Heading to the Kosel," "Israeli Hiker Falls to her Death in Peru," "Jewish Congressman Anthony Weiner Engaged To Muslim Woman."
May we all inspire each other to continue to grow, and truly yearn for Mashiach and the closeness we will feel with Hakadosh Baruch Hu. Let us show Hashem in some small way - (thank Hashem for something good He gives you, say one bracha with more kavanah, do a small act to bring someone else closer to Torah,) that we yearn to be close to Him.

  3. Yes, it's soo hard to understand Hashem's ways! We daven and cry out to Hashem, PLEASE BRING MOSHIACH!!! We need moshiach to come, yet he has not yet arrived!
Although we don't know why, we have to strengthen our emunah in Hashem that moshiach will come - each day we need to feel like he will come today!!
Hashem is not trying to tease us! He knows what we are going thru & understands our pain better than anyone can fathom!! It is not something I can explain - why moshiach has not yet arrived, even after all we have been thru as a nation but just remember that this is the voice of the yetzer hara speaking to us. He wants us to despair and he wants us to give up! So he says, why isn't moshiach here yet?? Let's just stop trying...
But if we take that same question & use it to help us move forward (doing mitzvos to help bring him closer), then we will be accomplishing more than you could ever imagine!!
