A Letter - Tefillah

Someone emailed this to me - she wrote this for a tefillah class and I'm posting it here with her permission.

On his deathbed, a father wrote this letter to his son.

Dear child,

I know you are suffering and in pain. I know you miss me and things are hard. I am enclosing a name and number of someone who can help you with all your problems.

I have someone who will help you learn. He has all the tools to help you get 100 on every test. He is never to busy and you can call him at all hours.

This someone has all the money in the world; so don’t feel bad to ask.

This someone has the power to grant your every request big or small.

Just call out to this “Someone”.

I’m going to give you this someone’s address and phone number so you can reach him.

Actually, you can dial any number to reach him and his line is never busy. His address is everywhere; you don’t have to search. He’s with you at all times throughout your day, and is watching you even as you are reading this letter.

Just know He is your father and call out to him. As I’ve said, His line is never busy. They call this someone Hashem, He created the whole world and surely He can help you.

Cry.

Beg.

Plead.

Make a connection. The more you talk to Him the more He’ll help you.

I love you.

  2. Thanks for sharing, Devora and thanks to the girl who sent it to you and allowed you to put it on the blog!! Always a good reminder that, as I think Chaya Sara once said, or maybe she said that someone else said- ""I can do anything I want, I can get anything I want, you know why? Because my father's the richest guy in the world." We've ALL got the best Daddy, the only one who not only can cares about all our needs, but also can PROVIDE us all we need.

  3. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
Aba Sheh BaShamayim (and everywhere, of course) loves us so, so much...to the point that we can't even fathom HOW much!

  4. Amazing! Thanks!
It's so true! Our loving father is here for us 24/7! and is everywhere! The more we include Hashem in our thoughts and actions, in our everyday lives, in everything we do and everywhere we go, life will just be a blessing! and the more AWARE we are of Hashems presence, it will help us choose the right choices! and just imagine: every time you make the right choice, imagine hashem smiling there right in front of you!!!

  5. Devoiry, thanks for the inspiration.

Since I lost my father, I realize more than ever how Hashem is the Avi Yesomim, and He always was. I feel that for me, there is a double meaning every time I say the word Av in davening.

  6. luv-thanks.

tamar-that's so true! Hashem can do anything and it's so important to keep that in mind whenever we daven to Him.

    SG-that's right!

Anon-yes, the more we are aware of Hashem's presence in our lives, the more we will begin to feel it!

Chan-thanks for stopping by. Wow. That must be very painful for you but comforting to know that Hashem is your father and is there for you at all times. I know that after I lost my brother, so many parts of davening had a whole different meaning - I translated phrases through the eyes of a mourner because I missed my brother so much! Also, the bracha of mechayeh hameisim is much more real to me now - may that day come soon!!

  7. Just beautiful, Devorah.
Rav Shimshon Pincus Z'L wrote something very similar to a Bochur who was looking for chizuk. Here it is:
